The Commonly Overlooked Accessories Of Curtains Rods And Holdbacks
A house is never complete without windows, and windows are never complete without curtains. Why you say? Well primarily because curtains possess functions in not the aesthetic sense but the utilitarian as well. Curtains serve as decorations to a window which could visually improve the look and feel of a room. Curtains also serve as devices which control the amount of light that enters a room; if you close the curtains to a window the room would get darker whereas if you opened them the opposite effect would take place. Curtains can also provide a measure of privacy especially in bedrooms and showers. These curtains however do not simply hang on a window by themselves. To install or attach a curtain to a window you must use a variety of instalments or add-ons to your windows like curtain rods and holdbacks. There are a wide variety of curtains, from the simple curtains that you just attach to a curtain rod to electric-operated curtains. Usually curtains come as a set; the parts you’ve got are the curtain rod, and some hooks for the curtain to hang on, and holdbacks to keep the curtains in place to keep a certain style. For those individual pieces (i.e. the curtain rod, hooks, etc) come in many shapes, sizes, designs and material. You have curtain rods and holdbacks can be made of bronze, aluminium, and sometimes wood. These curtain rods also have a cap of some sort at both ends called finials. Finials are a decorative device usually with carved designs and are commonly found in the apexes of architectural structures. Smaller versions of finials can be used as a pseudo-cap for the ends to curtain rods. Holdbacks are used to cinch the curtain and keep in place; this keeps the curtains from closing and can also serve as an additional decorative piece. These holdbacks usually come in a U-shape and are sometimes non-permanent; which means that for formal occasions like a dinner party you can use them so that the rooms will not be so dark with the curtains hanging loose. |
