Unless you have an odd wrought window, majority of curtain rods have various sizes.  Make sure that you pick a rod that has enough space on both sides of the window for your draperies to stack back.

If your windows are either short or long, the rods can also be shortened or connected to perfectly fit your windows.

As for the drapery hardware brackets, the average size window need to use two of these.  One bracket is used at every end of the pole.  They also come in different designs, so you can simply choose that will best fit the entire appearance of your window.

Curtain rings also add decorative touch to the window.  If you are using iron pole, you can also look for iron rings to match everything.  Get the measurement the exact measurement of the rings so they can perfectly fit the rod.

When you measure the curtain rods, you would need to select whether you will hang your curtains above the window or from the window frame.  Usually, they are placed above the window.

Get a measuring tape, and get the width of the window.  Then leave extra inches from each side of the window frame to allow the curtains to move.  If you will use a decorative end cap on every end of the rod, be sure you have enough space for them.  Sometimes there are magnetic caps that you can use so they do not easily slip off the rod.

As soon as you are done with the measurement of curtain poles and mount the brackets to the wall, you can now hang your curtains.

If you have conventional pleated curtain, you have to put the curtain hook into the eye of the eye of the drapery ring.  As soon as you have all the rings attached, insert them onto the curtain rod and put the finial.
