Getting Creative Using The Different Types Of Drapery Hardware Rods

Drapery Hardware Rods

The wide array of drapery hardware these days is enough to make anyone dizzy. The styles and designs they can come in or are shaped in are only limited by the imagination. As for the materials, they can come in forms like bamboo, rattan, chrome, brass and an assortment of other materials. But what exactly make up drapery hardware? Well, there are the finials and the brackets. And there are also the drapery hardware rods.

Drapery hardware rods can either be functional or decorative. The difference between the two is that a functional rod would be more likely than not, concealed by the fabrics and only purpose would be to support the curtain or drapes while as a decorative rod would also serve the purpose of enhancing the looks of the drapes or curtains. For the functional type of rod, your average metal rod would serve this purpose. As for decorative rods, they are the type to not just grace regular windows; these are also the types which are often used for circular or arched windows.

Most often than not, when we think of drapery rods, we think of bedrooms, or sitting rooms or study rooms or places which are graced by windows. But these rods also serve a purpose in the bathroom, either for the windows or for the shower curtains. And even here, they can come in decorative form or functional form.

So let’s talk about the things we need to remember about rods. The decorative ones come in different types and sizes. They are the ones which are meant to be seen and affect the total appearance not only of the window area but also of the room. So if I were doing, let’s say a racetrack themed room for kids, I’m not about to use iron wrought antique rods for the windows.

As for the rods which only serve a functional purpose, they are of the concealed kind. They usually come in the form of a metal, adjustable drapery hardware rod. The way their designed shows that they are meant to be covered by curtains and draperies.

There are also the traverse rods which mean they both serve a functional and decorative purpose at the same time. You usually see these kinds of rods on windows which closed or opened with a cord or wand. With traverse rods, the drapery hooks are to be inserted into holders or carriers of the sliding variety. The commonly used of this type of rod would have to be the two way kind.

There are also hinged rods out there. This type of rod allows for the curtains to swing back and forth. Or you could always go for motorized rods. These things allow for the curtains to be moved with just you pushing a button on a remote.

And there you have it, the different forms drapery hardware rods can take. You get to pick from a lot of choices and this allows for you to get all creative, so get those juices flowing.
